We have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Miles for SMILES event in response to the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak and resulting uncertainty in our community. Decisions like these are not made lightly but are necessary to ensure the health and safety of the many staff, families, and volunteers involved.

Please know that we look forward to 2021 when we can join together safely as a group to welcome runners, walkers, and our dedicated supporters at the starting line in support of mentoring. In the meantime, on behalf of SMILES and People Incorporated, please take care and stay well!

The event raises funds for the SouthCoast Mentoring Initiative for Learning, Education, and Service (SMILES), which provides school-based mentoring by pairing youth with a mentor from the community.

The goal of the SMILES program is to empower our future leaders by pairing every student who needs a mentor with a caring adult that can educate, inspire, and encourage them to make positive life choices.

We believe in the program because of its proven benefits, including increased graduation rates, GPAs, reading levels, and positive outlooks in mentees. Our goal of raising $100,000 will help us to continue to provide quality educational services to students throughout the area.
