Autism Services
We provide person-centered services that improve the quality of life for individuals living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by creating opportunities to engage in the community and successful work experiences in a meaningful way. We meet the needs of each person we serve through a multidisciplinary team approach that includes supporting any medical interventions prescribed to improve an individual’s ability to learn new skills while providing behavior supports, along with community and employment training. Services all lead individuals toward independence, community engagement, employment, and the accomplishment of their goals.
Assessment
Standardized behavioral, social, language, physical/adaptive, and work skills are evaluated and help the individual define the type of work and community engagement experiences that might suit them best.
Career Planning
Based on assessment results, we develop an individualized plan that helps guide the individual toward their full potential. Through intensive career exploration and exposure to different types of work through situational assessments, each person can make an informed decision on their training plan. Also, they create a professional resume, develop interviewing skills, develop a job search plan, and complete employment applications.
Training
- Employment Training - Services include identifying skill, sensory, and behavioral challenges that may create barriers to employment. Training focuses on building strengths and overcoming challenges with social and communication issues, utilizing individualized communication systems, behavioral programming, and sensory diets.
- Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) - People Incorporated has a Behavior Services Division that provides a multitude of services related to behavior and the environment in which the behavior occurs. The services include training in Universal Positive Behavior Support, a person-centered approach to understanding the reasons for behavior, and applying evidence-based practices for prevention and intervention to achieve meaningful social outcomes, increase learning, and enhance the quality of life.
- Job Skills Training - Through a broad range of social and employment skills training programs, individuals acquire the competencies they need to succeed. Individuals will explore their employment goals, practice interviewing and completing applications, job interest inventories, and exploration of job titles and duties.
Employment Search
Our employment specialists work closely with employers to identify people who would fit best and be an asset to their business. We use a business partnership approach to match the qualification and interests of individuals to job requirements.
On-going Employment Supports
The job coach will identify workplace supports required to assist the individual in becoming acclimated to the job. Job coaching will continue providing on-going supports to ensure the individual becomes a successful employee.
Collaborations with Higher Education
Supporting the transition of non-traditional learners into college is of utmost importance to our services. Examples of our commitment include grants with area colleges that have offered opportunities for individuals with Autism to actively participate in college classes and training opportunities. We also provide individualized support that includes meaningful career exploration and development, internships, and college readiness skills development.
Community Engagement
Structured activities to reinforce social and employment skills. Activities may include volunteer work and social events such as bowling, luncheons, exercise at a local fitness center, etc.
